Hydro- & Aerodynamics

  1. Tests and computations, including development of procedures, numerical models and computer software, in support of design work on ships, submarines and submersible vehicles for:
    • performance, manoeuvrability and seakeeping of dynamic-lift naval and commercial ships, wing-in-ground effect craft, submarines (submersible vehicles) and ice-going vessels;
    • hydro- and aerodynamic characteristics of hulls and control surfaces for various kinds of ships, wing-in-ground effect craft, submarines and submersibles;
    • hydrodynamic and cavitation characteristics of propellers, waterjets and thrusters;
    • flow characteristics in propulsor vicinities, propulsor/hull interaction characteristics for ships, submarines and submersibles;
    • dynamic of ships of various classes and designations under normal service and emergency conditions;
    • hydrodynamic and dynamic characteristics of submersibles, life-saving vehicles and towed systems;
    • hullforms, dynamic-lift systems, masts and propulsors;
    • ice loads and ice performance characteristics of marine structures, hulls of icebreakers and ice-capable ships.

  2. Development of model test and model manufacture facilities for hydrodynamic research.

  3. Development of guidelines, normative and regulatory documents for designing and upgrading ships, submarines and submersibles in terms of their hydrodynamics (performance, manoeuvrability, propulsor design, hullform optimisation).

  4. Design of all kinds of propulsors (propellers, Voith-Schneider propulsors, waterjets) and development of high-efficiency propulsion controls.
