"Krylov Readings"
A fundamental & applied research Conference
"Problems of Ship Seakeeping and Hydromechanics", better known as the
"Krylov Readings", will be held during 14 to 15 November 2001 at the
Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute in St.Petersburg. Both Russian
and foreign participants are expected to attend the conference.
The Conference is organized by the Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute,
a leading ship research & marine engineering center of Russia, jointly
with the Krylov Scientific & Engineering Society, one of the oldest
scientific societies of Russia.
Both organizations were established with a major contribution from Academician
A.N. Krylov, an outstanding scientist and naval architect, who also
started a tradition of holding regular conferences on ship theory. In
his memory and in recognition of his valuable contributions these conferences
were named the "Krylov Readings". Basing on the deliberations of these
conferences one can form a comprehensive notion of the developments
in the ship theory which took place in the second half of the XX century.
The novel ideas aimed at improving the seaworthiness of ships and marine
structures first uttered at these conferences then found their practical
implementation in real designs, in particular ship designs for the Arctic
Ocean, hydrofoil ships and WIG vehicles which are now recognized as
the benchmarks of the Russian shipbuilding.
The present conference is the 40th jubilee forum, which is timed with
the centenary of Yuri V. Krivtsov birth, who was a gifted organizer
and one of the top managers of the Krylov Institute for a long time.
Yuri V. Krivtsov was the main ideologist of the modern complex of the
Krylov Institutes experimental facilities, and for many years he was
personally in charge of their construction.
